Nerve is our cloud-managed edge computing platform for IIoT that enables real-time data access, secure software deployment, and centralized management of machines. With its certification according to the industrial cybersecurity norm IEC 62443-4-2, Nerve offers a future-proof, open, and hardware-independent architecture as a secure basis for new, digital business models that allow machine builders and OEMs to increase efficiency, secure legacy applications, upgrade brownfield equipment, and tap into new revenue streams.
The most recent release, Nerve 3.1.0, includes the complete set of product-level features required by IEC 62443-4-2, for full compliance with the requirements of NIS2 and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). It offers a major step forward in security, operational control, and node governance, with production‑grade hardening features, stronger identity and access controls, and new mechanisms to ensure integrity and traceability of both nodes and workloads.
A direct update to Nerve 3.1.0 is possible for customers with installations of Nerve 3.0.0. Those using version 2.10.0 or below will need to freshly install 3.1.0 on their devices.
Find out what’s new in release 3.1.0 below:
Nerve 3.1.0 introduces a range of security and compliance features designed to protect deployed nodes and ensure system integrity in live environments:
- The new production mode for nodes prevents accidental or unauthorized access to ensure safe running of deployed nodes run.
- Enhanced secure boot and disk encryption visibility lets users see immediately if a node is secure.
- Signed workload DNA and integrity verification guarantees that workloads were not tempered with and allows automatic detection of unexpected changes.
- To safeguard regulated environments, configuration integrity monitoring is available to perform checks of system variables when production mode is active, allowing for immediate detection of unauthorized or accidental changes.
Nerve 3.1.0 offers enhanced protection of identity, access, and users and gives companies more control over their data and applications. New features are the enforced password changes for default admin passwords, configurable password policies to match the needs of different organizations, as well as configurable session and connection limits.
In addition to Workload DNA, Nerve 3.1.0 offers Node DNA with system configuration, allowing for fully reproducible node setups that support large-scale or automated deployments and reducing the change of errors.
Other features include flexible system logging that gives users full control over what they want to log, as well as secure factory reset and decommissioning. This can be triggered directly from the local user interface and ensures complete removal of all customer data, destruction of encryption keys to enable the safe use and decommissioning of hardware at the end of its lifecycle.
